Introducing the Library AI Assistant in Destiny

March 26, 2026

Today, we’re introducing the Library AI Assistant – a new, embedded AI experience in Follett Destiny(r) Library Manager and Destiny Resource Manager that helps K–12 library and resource teams move faster on everyday work, not just reports.
Built on Follett Software AI, our integrated AI capability across suites, the Library AI Assistant is designed specifically for school operations and tuned to the workflows librarians and district leaders rely on most.
AI that’s built into Destiny, not bolted on
The Library AI Assistant lives directly inside Destiny — no separate tools, no extra logins, and no exports required. You’ll see AI alongside the circulation, catalog, and resource screens you already use, so staff can:
- Spot weeding and purchasing priorities in seconds, using real circulation and catalog data.
- Identify gaps and underused materials across schools based on actual demand, not guesswork.
- Surface missing, overdue, or aging items before they become bigger issues.
Everything is grounded in your Destiny data and permissions, so results reflect what’s really happening in your district.
Guided workflows, not just another report
Unlike generic AI tools that simply summarize content, the Library AI Assistant is tuned to library jobs-to-be-done and offers guided actions for common workflows. With just a few clicks or a plain‑language prompt, staff can:
- Generate weeding and purchasing lists aligned to your priorities.
- Create inventory worklists and asset reviews that cut out manual reconciliation.
- Ask everyday “how are we doing?” questions in chat and receive clear, actionable next steps.
The goal is to reduce repetitive clicks and email back‑and‑forth, so librarians and resource managers can spend more time with students and staff — not spreadsheets.
Grounded in your policies, with visible sources
Districts can upload collection development policies, weeding guidelines, circulation rules, and other procedures so the Library AI Assistant responds using your rules, not generic advice.
When AI provides guidance or a recommendation, it can:
- Cite the district documents it used, so staff see exactly where the answer came from.
- Inherit your existing roles, permissions, SSO, and governance model, staying within EDSAFE AI standards.
That means consistent, policy-aligned decisions across schools — with confidence that AI is operating inside your approved environment.

Part of an integrated AI strategy — and free to try
The Library AI Assistant is powered by Follett Software AI, the same integrated AI capability that will support Technology and Facilities teams through dedicated assistants for IT and operations. Across suites, districts get a unified, K–12‑focused AI layer that works where staff already work and follows the same governance model everywhere.
AI is also free to try directly in Destiny, so your team can explore the new experience in real workflows before making a commitment.
