In K–12 districts, technology leadership rarely fits neatly inside a job description. From infrastructure and cybersecurity to curriculum integration, data privacy, safety systems, communications, and emerging technologies like AI, today’s tech leaders operate at the intersection of nearly every department.
“Other Duties as Assigned” is more than a contract clause. It reflects the complex, interconnected nature of modern school systems.
This session explores how technology leaders can successfully navigate the many hats they wear without losing strategic focus, influence, or sustainability. Participants will examine how to clarify ownership versus partnership, build cross-department alignment, protect time for strategic work, and lead with confidence in a multi-role environment.
Rather than being defined by reactive demands, technology leaders will leave equipped to lead proactively, align systems effectively, and elevate their role from operational responder to strategic architect.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify the unofficial hats they are currently wearing.
- Clarify the difference between ownership and partnership.
- Build cross-department alignment structures.
- Protect strategic focus while managing operational demands.
- Reframe “Other Duties as Assigned” into a leadership opportunity.
