In today’s K–12 environment, cybersecurity is not just an IT issue. It is a leadership issue, an instructional issue, and a community trust issue. From phishing attacks and ransomware to student data privacy and AI-driven threats, schools are increasingly targeted and increasingly vulnerable.
This webinar explores how districts can move beyond compliance checklists and build a culture of shared responsibility around cybersecurity. Participants will examine proactive strategies for prevention, staff training, communication protocols, and incident response planning that protect systems, safeguard student data, and preserve instructional continuity.

- Understand the most common cybersecurity threats facing K–12 schools and why districts are frequent targets.
- Identify practical steps to strengthen prevention, including staff training and multi-layered protections.

Presenters:
Michelle Krieger is the Data Protection Officer for Lake Shore Central School District with over 24 years in education as a Special Educator, Technology Integration Specialist, and Technology Coordinator. She is the co-author of From Chalk Dust to Digital Trust: A Guide in Data Privacy and Security for K-12 Leaders and presents nationally on strategies to help schools strengthen cybersecurity and protect sensitive student and staff data.
Daniel L. Friedman is a dynamic leader at the intersection of educational technology and the arts. A former classicaly trained French Horn player and music educator, Dan has been serving as the Director of Educational Technology and Grants for Hicksville Public Schools for the last 14 years. He supports over 5,200 students and 1,000 staff through transformative initiatives. His leadership has helped modernize instruction, improve digital literacy and advance cybersecurity, including oversight of infrastructure upgrades and data privacy as the district’s Data Protection Officer. Dan recently crossed a milestone in his career having completed 30 years of service in public education.
