What’s New in the August 23 Release: Faster Answers for K–12 Technology and Facilities Teams

August 24, 2026

School technology and facilities teams are managing more requests, more data, and more day-to-day complexity than ever. The challenge is not a lack of information—it is finding the right answer quickly enough to keep work moving.

The August release from Follett Software brings new AI Assistant chat experiences to IT Asset Manager and Work Orders, along with practical updates that make it easier to coordinate work, understand what is happening across a district, and take action in the flow of daily operations.

Here’s a look at what’s new.

Technology AI AssistantTechnology AI Assistant: Ask questions and get answers faster

Technology AI Assistant is now available within IT Asset Manager, giving K–12 technology teams a more natural way to work with their district’s IT asset and ticket data.

Instead of navigating through reports and filters to answer an operational question, teams can start with a plain-language prompt and refine the conversation as they go. That makes it easier for both technology leaders and day-to-day IT staff to get to a useful starting point without needing to know exactly where the data lives or how to build a report.

Teams can ask questions such as:

  • Which assets are overdue for repair?
  • Where are the highest-volume request categories?
  • Which buildings have the most open requests?
  • What’s overdue right now?
  • Which device sync exceptions need attention?

The result is faster access to operational insight across schools, devices, users, requests, and buildings. Technology leaders can use the Assistant to support planning and accountability, while IT teams can spend less time assembling reports and investigating trends manually.

Technology AI Assistant is designed to work within the IT Asset Manager experience—not as a separate tool or replacement for existing workflows. Teams can review the information surfaced by the Assistant and use it to decide what needs attention next.

Facilities AI Assistant: Turn Work Orders data into next steps

Facilities AI Assistant chat is now available in Work Orders, helping facilities and maintenance teams ask questions about work orders, backlogs, buildings, and related facilities operations data in plain language.

Facilities leaders and work order administrators can use the Assistant to explore patterns and focus attention where it matters most. Example questions include:

  • What’s driving maintenance requests across the district right now?
  • Which buildings have the highest work order volume this month?
  • Which maintenance assets have had the most repeat repairs?
  • Which preventive maintenance tasks are overdue?
  • Using repair history, which maintenance assets may need closer review?

Built-in workflows and starting prompts help teams get going without needing to find the perfect wording. Users can begin with a common facilities question, review the response, and ask a follow-up to explore the issue further.

The Assistant helps make Work Orders data more accessible while keeping the system of record in place. Teams remain responsible for reviewing the insight and deciding how to respond—whether that means following up on a backlog, investigating a repeat issue, or planning maintenance work.

The August update also builds on AI capabilities already available in Work Orders, including AI Email Ticketing. Staff can continue to submit requests by email as they always have, while AI helps extract building and space details, assign category and priority, create a structured summary, and route the work order for review.

More practical improvements for IT Asset Manager

The August release includes several additional updates that support everyday technology operations:

Event-based MDM syncing with action buttons

New MDM-related improvements help teams respond to device and synchronization events with clearer next steps and more direct actions.

Mobile biometric login

Biometric login makes it easier for authorized users to access the mobile experience while working across schools and district locations.

Bulk Update Users

Teams can update user information more efficiently when changes need to be made at scale.

Ticket Subtasks

Complex requests can be broken into clear, trackable pieces, helping teams coordinate multi-step work with better ownership and visibility.

Knowledge Base guidance during request submission

Relevant Knowledge Base articles can be suggested when a user is submitting a request, helping connect people with useful information at the moment they need it.

Together, these updates reinforce IT Asset Manager as a connected system for managing assets, support workflows, and district technology operations.

More practical improvements for Work Orders

Work Orders also includes updates designed to improve coordination, visibility, field execution, and administrative efficiency:

Subtasks for complex requests

Teams can divide multi-step facilities work into clear, trackable pieces with ownership and progress.

Bulk user updates

Administrative teams can update user information more efficiently when changes affect multiple users.

Building-level charge reporting

A new Building column in the Charge Report makes it easier to filter and analyze charge activity by location, reducing the need for manual cross-referencing.

Charge Notifications

Notifications help keep users and families informed when a charge is applied, reducing confusion and related support questions.

More precise mobile work-order locations

Mobile users can add a specific room or area to a work order, giving field technicians clearer location details when they are working across buildings.

Support for larger exports

Teams can more easily retrieve and work with larger operational datasets when they need to analyze or share information outside the system.

These improvements are designed to support the real shape of facilities work—from coordinating multiple owners and locations to giving leaders a clearer view of what is happening across the district.

One connected step forward for district operations

Technology and facilities teams may manage different kinds of work, but both are being asked to improve visibility, respond faster, and do more with the systems and staff they already have.

The August release moves Follett Software further toward that connected operational experience. Technology AI Assistant helps IT teams ask better questions about assets and tickets. Facilities AI Assistant helps facilities teams understand work orders, buildings, and maintenance activity. Supporting updates make it easier to coordinate the work that follows.

For current customers, the next step is activation: open the new AI Assistant experience, start with a question your team already needs to answer, and connect the results to a real workflow. For districts evaluating their options, the release offers a practical look at how AI can work inside K–12 technology and facilities operations rather than beside them.
